One of the biggest challenges posed by the COVID-19 Pandemic in education was of allowing students and their families to make personal connections with teachers. In the Junior School in particular, it is essential to develop healthy bonds of trust between the teachers and the students and their families. With restrictions on the class times due to the virtual learning mode, students were not receiving enough personal attention. And even though teachers were catering to students’ individual needs through asynchronous means, they were facing problems in accurately assessing students’ learnings and growth. To solve this, we started organising Weekly Virtual Personal Sessions between the students and their families and the teachers. These 20-30 minute weekly sessions allowed all members to get to know each other and for families and teachers to develop meaningful collaborations and work together towards the students’ growth and development. The connections formed through these weekly interactions made possible by the digital connection channels, were much more concrete and sustainable than those developed through the few Parent-Teacher Meetings organised during a regular in-person school session. Continuing with these sessions, even when classes began being conducted in-person, has helped continue the connection between teachers and the students’ families to ensure that both parties are able to work in sync towards a shared common goal.
